DENMARK'S CHINA POLICY
Comprehensive Strategic Partnership between Denmark and China
Denmark and China established a comprehensive strategic partnership during the former Prime Minister Anders Fogh Rasmussen’s visit to China on 20-25 October 2008. The partnership will form the framework of future Sino-Danish cooperation.
The
”Comprehensive Strategic Partnership”
points out several areas Denmark and China have agreed to intensify the cooperation in the years to come. The areas are in line with Denmark’s Action Plan China “Denmark-China: A Mutually Beneficial Partnership” and it encompasses among other things:
• Strengthening of the political dialogue between Denmark and China as well as frequent exchanges of high level visits
• Climate, energy and environment
• Research and innovation
• Education
In the strategic partnership agreement both Denmark and China stress the need for countering the climate changes. Denmark and China will in that connection cooperate in the efforts to reach a global climate deal during UN’s climate conference COP15 in Copenhagen in December 2009.
Denmark supports the development of renewable energy in China. In 2009 the establishment of a
Sino-Danish Centre
of renewable energy will begin. The centre will strengthen the development of innovative technologies within renewable energy and, on top of that, it will enhance knowledge sharing and, at the same time give the opportunity for transferring technology between Danish and Chinese companies, and research institutions.
As a part of a strengthened cooperation within research, innovation and education a
Sino-Danish University Centre
will be opened in Beijing. It is expected that the University Centre will be ready in 2013 and at that time it should contain several hundred scientist and students from both Denmark and China.
