The Beijing Olympics is great! The following figures give an idea on how great it is!
$36b:
Beijing’s total investment in the games, 20 times more than 1996 Atlanta Olympics spent.
170km/$11b:
total length and investment of Beijing’s new subway built for Olympics. By 2015, Beijing will have 561km subway system.
$2.4b:
32 venues in Beijing, 19 will be newly-constructed (including 6 temporary sites) and 13 are existing facilities to be renovated or extended. In addition, 59 training sites will be renovated and special facilities for the Paralympics will be constructed. 5 venues outside Beijing, the Qingdao International Sailing Center, Tianjin Stadium, and Qinhuangdao Stadium will be newly constructed while Shenyang Wulihe Stadium and Shanghai Stadium are existing ones to be renovated. A total of $2.4 billion will be spent on development of these venues.
317.8km:
By 2008, 317.8km new roads will be expanded throughout the city, including highways, city expressways and intra-city light rails ext.
120:
more than 120 hotels have been/will be built, renovated or enlarged inside Beijing. By 2008, Beijing will have more than 800 star-rated hotels.
500,000:
Beijing is expecting 500,000 – 550,000 foreign visitors and 1 million domestic tourists during the Games.
17,000:
The Olympic Village will house 17,000 athletes and officials during the Game and BOCOG announced that the catering rooms are capable of feeding 6,000 at once on a 24-hour schedule.
21,600:
With 21,600 journalists accredited for the Game and up to half that number expected to turn up to report from the city without IOC credentials, the Beijing Games promise to be the most intensely scrutinized Olympics in history.
