DANISH UNIBIO SIGNS AGREEMENT IN CHINA
The Danish company Unibio will cooperate with Chinese company Honghe Natural Gas Co. Ltd. Under a licence agreement to produce Uniprotein® in China.
The licence agreement amounts to a technology payment of millions of Euro and royalties amounting to some percent of the total turnover over the next 20 years.
Attending the signing were the Mayor of Songyuan city and Minister Counsellor Mr. Jacob Ærenlund from the Royal Danish Embassy in Beijing. Jacob Ærenlund is delighted to see yet another example of Sino-Danish business relations:
“It’s inspiring to witness this new agreement. It can help promote environmental friendly and sustainable solutions to the industry. Using natural gas for animal feed will have a positive effect on the environment, as the only waste product from the process is water. Furthermore the product contains no toxins, dioxins or heavy metals,” Jakob Ærenlund says.
The proteins (Uniprotein®) produced can be mixed with other feed compounds and has successfully been tested for salmon, calves, pigs and chickens and is in accordance with Council Directive 95/33/EC of 10 July 1995. With a crude protein content of more than 70%, it is considered to be nutritionally equivalent to any high quality fishmeal.
Chairman of the Unibio Board, Professor Christian Sørensen, and Director Mr. Henrik Busch Larsen represented Unibio. Head of the Chinese delegation was Chairman of the Board Mr. Liu Guiqing.
Unibio holds a patented technology for converting natural gas into animal feed through producing single cell protein. The Chinese company, Honghe Natural Gas Co. Ltd., had been searching intensively for a supplier of such technology for three years. After the companies were properly introduced during a visit to Denmark in October, Honghe Natural Gas Co. and Unibio were able to finalise the agreement at a signing ceremony in the city of Songyuan in Jilin Province on December 8th.
Jilin province is well known as a major agriculture province in China. The 3.96 million hectares farmland contains outstanding fertile soil, suitable for growing grains, beans, oil crops and beetroot. In addition to this, the province is rich on minerals and natural gas making it a very good cooperation partner to Denmark and Unibio. Honghe Natural Gas is expected to spend 110 million RMB in 2009 and an additional 400 million RMB in 2010 on constructing a factory thereby integrating the obtained technology from Unibio.
